18th Century, Dutch Inlaid / Marquetry, Walnut Bookcase Bureau
A stunning piece, standing over 7ft tall and consisting of a double door bookcase above a bureau and a bank of 3 drawers.
You can tell the age of this item is old by the hand cut locks to the drawers as well as the aged wood that makes up the structure of the drawers. Additionally, there has been some history to the piece as it appears as if the interior of the bureau has been removed in the past as the veneer is missing from the back half of the bureau. The bank of 4 drawers within the bureau is then removable but matches the aesthetic of the rest of the piece, potentially proving that there was something else there previously. It is believed that the entire piece is made out of walnut and satinwood, with a potentially tar or wax seal to the rear of the piece. Truly, it is a fantastic piece.
The only damage which is worth mentioning is a split to the panel on the left hand side. Please zoom in on the photo and it can be seen. Additionally, the right hand door seems to have a slight warp but isn’t noticeable unless you’re looking for it. The arch at the top of the piece also has a slight chip to the finish. A key is provided for the bookcase, however, the drawers do not come with a key.
The piece measures 115cm L x 56cm D x 220cm T.
