A late 19th century Zanzibar chest crafted from teak and richly decorated with hammered brass inlay, rivets, and stamped cross motifs. The chest features a large storage compartment beneath a lift-up top, concealing a smaller internal compartment, with three drawers positioned at the base for additional storage.

It sits on a carved stand with further brass inlay, complementing the ornate decoration of the chest itself. The craftsmanship and detailing reflect the traditional East African and Indian Ocean trade influences associated with Zanzibar furniture of this period.

The piece shows general wear consistent with age and use, including minor wood splitting and some small losses, potentially a missing handle or decorative element to the top. Overall, it presents beautifully with a rich patina and strong character.

The chest measures 127 cm long, 71 cm deep, and 90 cm high.
