This stunning hammered effect bowl has the profiles of multiple Greek gods and goddesses around its circumference, mainly the profile of Zeus which has incredible detail. Etchings of lighting bolts shoot across the bowl from multiple directions too.


It’s is in great clean condition making it hard to believe it’s over 140 years old. There is only one thing to mention and that is a stain on the outside of the bowl. Normally this would suggest that this is a repair, however, I believe this to be from the original maker. I believe this because on the inside, there is a perfectly straight seam which runs vertically. This is more than likely where this piece was made flat and then rolled around the base. Aside from this stain and seam, there is 2 minor dings to the base.


In 3 positions around the bowl there is engravings detailing that this bowl was won by a winner of a sloop race. The three inscriptions read ‘Dorchester Yacht Club Regatta’, ‘18 June 1883 1st Class Sloops’, ‘Won By “Maggie”’.


The bowl measures 12cm in diameter and is 5cm tall. It weighs a total of 272g.
