Negretti & Zambra, a British Scientific & Optical instrument manufacturer, is the name behind this near pristine example of a telescope dating from the 19th Century. The telescope itself is made from brass and housed in a wooden, partially felt lined box. The telescope sits upon its own solid brass tripod and is supplied with a range fittings and attachments as seen in the photos.
The telescope does have some tarnishing associated with brass of approximately 150 years in age, however, doesn’t have any dents, obvious scratches, etc. The lenses are all in great condition with no cracks that would affect the optics. Everything on the telescope appears to function as expected and nothing appears to be missing either. The box itself does have an obvious split to the lid as seen in the photos, although the lock is still functioning and is supplied with a key.
The telescope it is longest arrangement is 175cm in length. In its shortest operation arrangement, the telescope is 128cm L. The largest diameter of the telescope (towards the objective lens, not the lens itself) is 11cm in diameter whereas the eye piece measures 3.5cm in diameter. The finder scope measures 3cm in diameter at the eye piece, 3.5cm in diameter towards the objective lens (not the lens itself), 32.5cm L retracted x 35cm L extended. The box measures 131.5cm L x 32cm D x 17.5cm H.
