Rare Large 19th Century Chinese Export Silver Meat Skewer - Irish Marks
This skewer is Cantonese in origin and dates to 1850.
It is certain that this skewer is not of Irish origin due to having a non-crowned harp. Attempts to find the maker has been unsuccessful but the stamp is "CK". There is a anchor stamp which usually denotes Birmingham, however, in this instance, it is a Chinese pseudo mark. There is a date letter "O" but this does not correspond with either Dublin or Birmingham marks. Finally there is a duty mark which is not similar to any known existing duty mark, Georgian, Victorian, etc.
The skewer itself is in good condition, although, the cartouche is engraved. It is believed to be silver, as the skewer is not magnetic.
The skewer itself measures 30cm long and 3cm at its widest point. In total it weighs 79g.
